Visiting Oman visa-free: who qualifies and the entry conditions

Which nationalities can visit Oman for 14 days without a visa, what is checked at the border, and what GCC residents need to know.

Who qualifies

Citizens of more than 100 countries and territories can visit Oman for up to 14 days without an entry visa. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) publishes them in two lists:

  • List 1, 80 countries and territories: 44 in Europe, 10 in South America and 26 elsewhere, including all 27 EU member states, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, Russia, Turkey and Lebanon.
  • List 2, 24 countries, with an extra condition: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Costa Rica, Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Maldives, Mauritania, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan and Vietnam.

Citizens of the other GCC states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) need no visa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' copy of the list differs slightly: its English page includes the Philippines and leaves out Taiwan, which the ROP lists. Holders of either nationality should check with the ROP before booking.

Conditions at the border

The ministry's published controls for visa-free entry require:

ConditionRequirement
PassportValid for at least six months
Return ticketRequired
HotelA confirmed reservation
Health insuranceRequired
MoneyEnough to cover living costs during the stay
List 2 nationals onlyResidence in, or a valid entry visa for, the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, a Schengen country or Japan; or residence in a GCC country in a profession eligible for the GCC resident visa

A spouse and children travelling with an eligible visitor also benefit, even if they hold a different nationality.

How long you can stay and extensions

The visa-free stay is 14 days and, according to the ministry, cannot be extended or converted into any type of residence visa.

Anyone needing longer, or not on either list, applies through the ROP eVisa portal, where the Tourist Visit Visa is offered to nationals of specified countries for 10 days, 14 days or one month.

Separately, ROP Decision No. 109/2026, in force since 3 August 2026, created a free 14-day tourist visa, granted on request to nationals of countries the competent authority designates. The decision does not name them. Unlike the visa-free stay, this visa can be swapped before it expires for another tourist visa, at that visa's fee.

GCC residents and the unified GCC visa

In force now: For visa-free entry, GCC residence matters only to List 2 nationals, and only if their profession is on the eligible list. The ROP also issues a GCC Resident Visa to foreign residents of GCC countries visiting for tourism whose professions are on the authority's list. It needs no sponsor and allows a single entry and a four-week stay, extendable by one week.

Planned, not yet in force: The unified GCC tourist visa, meant to let foreign visitors travel among all six member states on one visa, was approved by the GCC Supreme Council at its 44th session in Doha in December 2023. In remarks reported on 9 October 2026, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi said the project had entered its final implementation stages. No launch date, fee or length of stay has been announced.
