Oman's stock market, represented by the MSX 30 index, rose 1.27% to close at 7628 points, buoyed by a significant 116.40% surge in the value of shares traded. This positive performance occurred as Saudi-Omani diplomatic efforts worked to ease geopolitical tensions in the region. However, crude oil prices also rose sharply throughout the week amid renewed regional escalations. Separately, the US unemployment rate held steady at 4.1%. The overall market capitalisation recorded a notable 1.71% rise, indicating broad-based gains across the market.

Market Performance Details

The industrial sector demonstrated strong growth, advancing 3.49% to reach 9816 points. Within this sector, Voltamp Energy saw a significant jump of 8.14%, reflecting investor confidence in the energy infrastructure segment. OQ Base Industries (SFZ) also recorded a positive performance, rising by 4.40%, contributing to the sector's strong upward movement. Oman Cables Industry increased by 1.32%, while Jazeera Steel Products similarly posted a positive performance, gaining 1.78%. These individual stock performances showed the strength observed within the industrial index.

The financial index registered a slight increase of 0.38%, closing the session at 13434 points. Omnivest contributed to this rise with a 4.74% gain, demonstrating strong investor interest in its offerings. Madina Takaful also moved higher by 3.67%, reflecting positive sentiment in the insurance sector. Sohar International Bank saw its shares increase by 3.26%, noting a generally favourable environment for banking stocks. However, not all financial stocks performed positively; Bank Dhofar experienced a slight decline of 0.91%, and Oman Emirates Holding slipped by 0.77%, indicating some selective pressures within the financial sector. The services index also gained modestly, increasing by 1.52% to finish at 3060 points, rounding out a generally positive day for the market's main indices.

Sectoral Movers and Shakers

Among individual stocks, Al Batinah Power saw a surge of 7.07% in its stock value, making it one of the day's top performers. Oman Telecom also recorded an increase, rising slightly by 1.24%, reflecting stable performance in the telecommunications sector. Phoenix Power edged higher during the trading session, gaining 1.07%. Conversely, OQ Gas Networks experienced a retreat in its shares, moving lower by 1.35%, indicating some downward pressure in the energy distribution segment. Similarly, Abraj Energy Services moved lower, with its stock declining by 0.98%, suggesting a mixed sentiment within the broader energy sector.

Economic Drivers and Outlook

Oman's overall market capitalisation recorded a 1.71% rise, while the number of shares traded increased by 123.08%, reflecting heightened market activity and strong investor engagement. Geopolitical sentiment was influenced by a statement from Donald Trump, who asserted that the campaign against Iran would not last long, potentially easing some regional anxieties. Economic data from the United States also played a role, with non-farm payrolls showing accelerated job growth in August, which can impact global market confidence.

Ahmed Negm, Chief Analyst at XS.com, noted key domestic indicators that underpinned the market's strength. "An 11.3% increase in total oil production, to 233.80 million barrels, signalled stronger daily output despite the regional situation," Negm stated, pointing to the resilience of Oman's vital energy sector. He added, "Solid first half (H1) data on banking credit growth by 12.3% year-on-year and non-oil export resilience of 11.4% also helped underpin the MSX 30’s steady advance." These strong macroeconomic figures, including the sustained growth in banking credit and strong performance in non-oil exports, provided a solid foundation for the market's positive trajectory. The consistent rise in oil production further bolstered economic confidence, contributing to the overall optimistic outlook for the Omani stock market.
