New statistics for the first quarter of 2026 indicate a significant shift in investor behavior towards digital services in Oman. These statistics show a growing preference among businesses and investors for streamlined, online interactions. The self-service channel recorded 38,551 completed transactions during this period, signaling a strong adoption of digital platforms. The figures represent a 1.3 percent increase in self-service transactions when compared with the same quarter last year, noting a steady upward trend in digital engagement. This growth reflects a broader movement towards digitalization within the Sultanate's business ecosystem, aimed at enhancing efficiency and accessibility.

Platform Enhancements and New Services

Several new services have been introduced on the platform, significantly expanding its capabilities and utility for users. These additions include data correction and commercial registration ownership transfer through visual documentation, simplifying processes that previously required more traditional methods. Hamid bin Hamad Al-Barashdi, Assistant Director of the Auditors Department and a member of the ministry's Digital Transformation Team, stated that "enhancements were also made to the obligations register to improve service efficiency and user experience." These improvements to the obligations register are critical for ensuring that businesses can manage their compliance requirements more effectively and with greater ease. A merger option was also integrated into the service pathway, a key development that allows for more complex corporate actions to be handled digitally. This new merger feature includes a 30-day objection period for merger requests following the publication of an announcement, ensuring transparency and due process for all stakeholders involved.

During the first quarter of 2026, the platform processed a total of 1,202 conformity certifications, demonstrating its role in regulating various product categories entering the Omani market. Cosmetic products represented the largest portion of these certifications, with 413, reflecting the significant volume of such goods. Children's toys accounted for 217 certifications, showing the platform's function in ensuring product safety for consumers. Lead-acid vehicle batteries received 179 certifications, an essential step for automotive-related imports and sales. Certifications for low-voltage electrical devices and equipment also saw a notable increase, rising by 35.1 percent to 127 in the first quarter of 2026, compared with 94 in the first quarter of 2025. This rise indicates an increasing demand for these certifications and the platform's capacity to handle the growing volume efficiently.

Declining Traditional Channels

The increasing reliance on digital services has directly impacted traditional service delivery channels. Transactions completed through the ministry's front offices significantly decreased by 86.3 percent during the first quarter of 2026, totaling 2,029. This figure marks a substantial drop from the 14,773 transactions recorded through front offices during the same period in 2025, illustrating a pronounced shift in user preference. Additionally, transactions processed via the ministry's regional directorates and departments experienced a decline of 47.5 percent. This reduction saw the number of transactions fall from 2,440 in the first quarter of 2025 to 1,282 in the first quarter of 2026, indicating a continued shift away from traditional service channels as users increasingly opt for the convenience and speed of online platforms. This trend is a clear indicator of the successful digital transformation efforts being implemented.

Broader Impact and Vision 2040 Alignment

The expansion of digital services on the Oman Business platform aligns with Oman's broader strategy to bolster its competitiveness, streamline business operations, and realize the objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040. The growth in digital services supports Oman's efforts to enhance competitiveness, improve ease of doing business, and achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040 by creating a more efficient and accessible business environment. Since its inception, the self-service portal has processed a cumulative total of 1.16 million transactions, demonstrating widespread adoption and the significant impact it has had on the business community. This cumulative figure notes the sustained trust and reliance on the digital platform for various business needs. Across all registration channels, the total number of transactions remained stable at 62,605 during the first quarter of 2026, indicating a consistent level of overall business activity, albeit with a strong shift towards digital processing. Overall, the Oman Business platform has facilitated more than 3.09 million transactions since its launch, reflecting its sustained impact on the country's business environment and its critical role in the national digital transformation agenda.
