Oman public holidays 2026 and 2027: official dates and what is still expected
Oman's official public holidays for 2026, the National Day break still ahead, and which 2027 dates are set by law or depend on moon sighting.
Still to come in 2026
National Day: Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November, the only public holiday left this year, for government and private-sector employees alike. With the Friday–Saturday weekend, that means four days off, 25 to 28 November.
The law puts National Day on 20 and 21 November, a Friday and Saturday this year; the Ministry of Labour's 2026 calendar, published on 28 December 2025, sets the days off on 25 and 26 November instead. Employers whose work cannot stop may keep staff on duty, with compensation.
Sultan's Armed Forces Day (11 December) is a holiday for the armed forces only. The 2027 calendar is due around the start of the year.

Isra and Mi'raj comes twice in 2027, as the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter. Days off can differ from the occasion: Accession Day 2026 was observed on 15 January.
Basis: the Eid and Hijri New Year estimates are UAE projections by the UAE's Astronomy Centre, reported by Khaleej Times; the rest are our own calculation from NASA new-moon times. Oman's committee decides and may differ.
How holiday dates are set
- The law. Royal Decree 88/2022, amended by Royal Decree 15/2025, sets the same holidays for the public and private sectors: Hijri New Year (1 Muharram), the Prophet's Birthday (12 Rabi al-Awwal), Isra and Mi'raj (27 Rajab), National Day (20 and 21 November), Accession Day, Eid al-Fitr (29 Ramadan to 3 Shawwal) and Eid al-Adha (9 to 12 Dhu al-Hijjah). 1 January is not on the list.
- Weekends. A weekend day falling within a non-Eid holiday is compensated with one day, and those dates may be moved in the public interest. A Friday on the first day of either Eid is compensated too.
- The annual calendar. Since December 2025, non-Eid holiday dates are announced at the start of each year.
- Moon sighting. Hijri months begin on dates declared by the Main Committee for the Sighting of the Hijri Month Crescents, chaired by the Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. The Eid holidays follow its declarations; in 2026 each was announced about a week ahead.
- Private sector. Workers keep their full wage on official holidays. Those required to work get an extra day's basic wage or a day off in lieu (Labour Law, Articles 79 and 71).
