The main index of the Muscat Stock Exchange recorded its best level in four weeks on Thursday, surpassing the 7,500-point mark at the close of trading. The Muscat Stock Exchange benefited from a positive atmosphere, following the completion of announcements regarding financial results for the first half of this year. This positive momentum propelled the market to a significant milestone, marking a period of renewed investor confidence. The overall sentiment was buoyed by these financial disclosures, providing clarity and direction for market participants.

Sectoral Performance and Market Breadth

The financial sector index rose 190 points, closing above 13,150 points. This substantial increase showed strong performance within the banking and investment sectors. The services sector index climbed to the 3,000-point level, marking a weekly increase of about 2 percent, equivalent to 57 points, reflecting positive trends in various service-oriented businesses. The Sharia index also recorded an increase of 12 points, closing near the 600-point level, demonstrating growth in Sharia-compliant investments. These sectoral gains collectively contributed to the overall upward trajectory of the market.

Dividend Announcements Drive Gains

OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP), Asyad Shipping, and Pearl Real Estate Investment Fund have announced plans to distribute interim dividends to their shareholders in the coming weeks. These announcements contributed significantly to the positive market sentiment observed on the Muscat Stock Exchange, as investors often view dividend distributions as a sign of financial health and commitment to shareholder returns. Separately, Al Anqa Energy previously declared its intention last month to distribute special cash dividends of 81 baisa per share. This distribution is contingent upon the company completing the refinancing of its existing financing facilities through local banks. Al Anqa Energy is currently engaged in auditing its financial statements for the period that ended on June 30, a key step before the dividend distribution can proceed.

This reduction in trading value suggests a slight moderation in overall market activity despite the positive index performance.
