Indian EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar visits Oman July 9-10, 2026, for bilateral talks.
India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, will undertake an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman from July 9–10, 2026, for bilateral talks. During the visit, Dr. Jaishankar is scheduled to hold discussions with Oman's Foreign Minister, H.E Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi. "The two sides are expected to review the full spectrum of India–Oman bilateral relations and take stock of the implementation of decisions taken during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Oman in December 2025," the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated. This review "may also include the road map for the implementation of the India–Oman Full Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force on 1 June 2026," the Ministry added.
Key Discussions and Agreements
The roadmap for the implementation of the India–Oman Full Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is expected to be a key discussion point during the visit. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs indicated that these talks may address the operationalization of CEPA, which officially entered into force on June 1, 2026. The agreement aims to enhance trade and economic ties between the two nations.
Discussions between Dr. S. Jaishankar and H.E Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi will extend beyond bilateral economic matters. As stated by the Ministry, "The two Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual interest." This broader scope suggests that the officials will cover a range of geopolitical topics impacting both India and the Sultanate of Oman. The exchange of views on these developments is a standard component of high-level diplomatic engagements, reflecting shared interests in regional stability and global affairs.
Broader Diplomatic Context
Dr. S. Jaishankar's visit to Oman is part of a broader diplomatic tour that began with visits to Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait from July 5–9, 2026. Following his engagements in Oman, the External Affairs Minister is scheduled to travel to New York. In New York, he will launch India's official campaign for election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–29 term on July 13, 2026.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated, "Following his visit to Oman, the EAM will travel to New York to launch, on 13 July 2026, India's official campaign for election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–29 term. He will thereafter visit Brussels on 14–15 July 2026 to participate in the 3rd India–EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Meeting and hold discussions with his counterparts from the European Union and Belgium." Strategic Partnership Goals
The two sides are expected to review the full spectrum of India–Oman bilateral relations. This includes taking stock of the implementation of decisions made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Oman in December 2025, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. These discussions aim to assess progress on existing agreements and identify areas for further collaboration.
The visit is anticipated to further strengthen the India–Oman Strategic Partnership. It also seeks to reinforce the longstanding friendship and multifaceted cooperation that exists between the two countries.
